Rclone connection to proton drive

Hi All,

Seen several previous threads on this issue across 2025 and the last one seems to have concluded with it being caused by compatability issues in rclone (not rcloneview) that resulted in Proton Drive getting temporarily removed from the rccloneview remote list until the problem got sorted.

Now at Feb 2026, Proton Drive is again included in the rconeview remote list but has not worked for me. I am getting a ‘failed to fetch file items after 3 attempts’ error message and in the rcloneview log so, whilst I have a Proton Drive window created in rcloneview, none of my Proton Drive folders/files have been fetched and non are visible. Would appreciate the latest on this ASAP please as I seem to be wasting a lot of my time :frowning:. Is this ever going to get fixed?

Thank you for reporting this and for the detailed description of the issue. We’re sorry for the frustration.

We’ll take a look into this and investigate what’s causing the ‘failed to fetch file items after 3 attempts’ error with Proton Drive. As you noted, there have been ongoing compatibility issues on the rclone side, and it’s possible that not all of them have been fully resolved yet.

We’ll update this thread once we have more information.

Thanks for your patience.

After looking into this, we can confirm that Proton Drive has been officially deprecated by rclone (classified as Tier 5 — no longer maintained or supported). You can see the current status here: Backend Support Tiers

Since RcloneView relies on rclone as its backend, Proton Drive support is unfortunately no longer viable. The fact that Proton Drive still appeared in the RcloneView remote list was our mistake — it should have been removed when rclone deprecated it.

We will release a hotfix shortly to remove Proton Drive from the remote list to avoid further confusion.

We apologize for the inconvenience and the time you spent troubleshooting this.

Reb,

I do not know if you are trying to get Proton Drive to work with RcloneView (or anything that uses rclone remotes), but I just got mine working. I had to install Proton Drive for Linux from a GitHub project, then use it to make a remote. I then used the remote in RcloneView. Not very elegant, but it sure worked.

Hope this helps.
